Q: What are the benefits of natural, handmade soap?

A:  Natural handmade soap is made from ingredients in nature such as oils and butters that nourish skin, whereas commercial soaps and body wash ingredients are made in labs from synthetic ingredients. For some people with sensitive skin and irritations like eczema or psoriasis, these synthetic ingredients can make their conditions worse. Additionally, the synthetic ingredients are washed into our waterways, potentially polluting waterways.

Real soap naturally makes its own glycerin as a byproduct of the process that turns the oils and butters into soap.  That naturally occurring glycerin acts as a humectant, helping skin relieve dryness and retain moisture.

Manufacturers of commercial "soap" found at the grocery store actually remove the naturally occurring glycerin in the manufacturing process to repurpose into lotions, conditioners and other body care products.  The commercial soap cleanses and over drys skin, and with the absence of naturally occurring glycerin, consumers need to use a second moisturizing product to soothe the dry skin.  So, now you have to use 2 products to fend off dry skin!

Q: What does the term "Natural" actually mean?

A:  The interesting thing to mention here is that the term "natural" and its definition is not regulated by any government agency in the USA.  It's unfortunate there are no specific guidelines to use this term because a lot of corporations and small businesses use this term loosely,  which is commonly referred to as "greenwashing."

So, we can tell you what the term "natural" means to our business, by our strict standards.  When we use the term "Natural" we pledge that our products:

  • Are made with only naturally derived ingredients from plants, minerals and in limited circumstances, animals (such as beeswax and goat milk).
  • Never use synthetic fillers, colors, fragrances or dyes.
  • Are free from sketchy chemicals like parabens, sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), phthalates and formaldehyde which have been linked to health issues such as cancer, ADHD, reproductive issues, and respiratory irritations.

Q: Why do you not use Palm Oil in your products?

  • A:  Here are 5 Reasons we avoid palm oil:
    1. Rainforests face severe deforestation by being bulldozed or torched to make room for more palm plantations, contributing to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions
    2. Palm plantations have led to a loss of habitat for endangered orangutans, borneo elephants and sumatran tigers, pushing them closer to extinction.
    3. Palm plantations are notorious for human rights violations such as forced child labor and human trafficking.
    4. New palm plantations are constantly built and push indigenous people from the forests their people have inhabited and protected for generations.
    5. The Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) which certifies “ethical” palm plantations faces international criticism for not thoroughly auditing companies, lacking substantial penalties for rule breakers and for being overly influenced by the powerful palm oil industry.

    How Can you Help?
When possible, choose products without palm oil. Read product labels and avoid products that contain: palmitate, palmitic acid, palmolein, palm kernelate, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearic acid and glyceryl.
